Published in the year 2015 by Bloomsbury, Kaleidoscope City: A Year In Varanasi is a vivid account of the divine city of Varanasi. In his attempt to capture its beauty, the author Piers Moore Ede discovers the multilayers of sanctity and vice that surround the city.
Synopsis
Author Piers Moore Ede spends a month in Varanasi, on his return from Nepal. Few months later he feels drawn to the city and comes back to spend more time in Varanasi. He beautifully describes everything he loves about the city of Varanasi- the enchanting music, the delectable sweets, the rhythmic chants of thousands of devotees and the spectacular sight of lamps floating on the river. While capturing the glories and spiritualism of the city, Bloomsbury, Kaleidoscope City: A Year In Varanasi also throws some light on the corruption that has engulfed the city such as drug dealing, heroin trading, and human trafficking. He discovers the important themes of this spiritual city through the people and beautifully balances its evils with its glories
